Aikido Mailing List Japan Seminar
The Aikido-L mailing list is an E-mail forum designed to bring togeather people
from all over the world with an interest in Aikido. Several members reside in
Japan and have decided to get togeather to meet face to face and learn from
each other. The seminar which will include training in two styles of Aikido
and Judo will be held near Kyoto on the weekend of February 6th and 7 th.
Friends are welcome although if you wish to train some background in Aikido or
Judo is desired.
Saturday February 6th
9:00-9:30 Warm-ups and stretching
(We don't want any injuries this weekend!)
9:30-11:45 Yoshinkan Aikido Mike Kimeda (Yoshinkan Honbu: Sandan)
11:30-1:00 Lunch and playtime
1:00-2:00 Intro to Judo for the Kime no Kata: Chokes, Osoto Gari,
Seoinage
Peter Boylan (Kodokan, Nidan)
2:00-3:00 Tomiki Aikido: Kihon Junanahon and if time permits Kaishiwaza
(Shodokan Honbu: Peter Rehse Ikkyu, Fujimoto Shodan)
3:00-4:00 Peter Boylan will bring live swords to teach blade handling
before the visit to the sword smith.
4:00-5:00 Yoshinkan Aikido (Mike Kimeda)
5:00-7.00 Dojo Free Time (Review, perhaps comparative Yonkyo, or early
supper)
7:30 A visit to a Sword smith.
Sunday February 7th
9:00-9:15 Warm-ups and stretching
9:15-11:00 Judo: Kime No Kata (Sakashita, Yondan)
11:00-12:00 Tomiki Aikido: Koryu Goshin no Kata first 16
(Rehse and Fujimoto)
12:00-1:00 Lunch at a local Udon shop.
1:00-3:00 Tomiki Aikido: Junanahon Applications, Tanto Taisabaki and
Kakari Geiko, Randori training exercises.

3:00-4:00 Dojo Free time (as on Saturday)
4:00 Bow out, say good-bye, and depart for station
Those who wish may stay later and we can go out for dinner.
The Saturday facility has coin operated showers but on Sunday we will either go
to a local Sentan or an Onsen which is about 10 minutes away.
Cost: 1 day 1500 Yen, 2 days 2500 Yen for Dojo Rental and Bento on Saturday;
For those staying overnight please let me know as soon as possible so
arrangements can be made (Hotel is about 5000 Yen).
Directions:
From Tokyo take the Shinkansen to Maibara. Change trains for the local
Omitetsudo line. On Saturday take this for about 40 minutes to Yokaichi Eki.
On Sunday take it for about 30 minutes to Eichigawa Eki.
From Osaka (Umeda)/Kyoto take the Biwako Line to Omihachiman. Change trains to
the Omitetsudo line. On Saturday take this for about 15 minutes to Yokaichi
Eki. On Sunday take it for about 25 minutes to Eichigawa Eki.
Saturday: Peter Boylan's house is 2 minutes walk (Tel: 0748-23-8208 ).
To get to his house go straight out the front door of the station and straight
up the street. Just ahead you will see an interesction with an AL
Plaza/Heiwado Dept. Store on the far left corner, and a small tea shop
on the near left corner. Turn left here. Peter Boylan's home is about 50
paces up the street. It is the Shichiriya Bakery, please see the map. We
leave for the dojo around 8:45 am.
The seminar is held at Nunobiki Taiikukanwhich is about 5 minutes by Taxi.
Sunday: From Eichigawa Station, go left about 100 meters. You will see a
railroad crossing on your left. Go over the Omitetsudo tracks, and under the
Shinkansen tracks. Go another 200 meters, and on your right will be a school.
This is Eichi Chugako, where the Seminar will be held. The dojo is adjacent
to the street you are on. Please see the map.
