Aikido-L Seminar '99 - Pictorial Review* [2/4]

Alan Drysdale's Class

Alan Drysdale of Shoshin Dojo taught the last class of the day. Alan began by saying that he had a technical approach to aikido, so he should be good follow up to Philip's class. Alan also began class with shihonage. He started with a shihonage exercise that he stole from Chuck Clark, one of the teachers at the first Aikido-L Seminar. This exercise was a palm-to-palm version of shihonage. Unfortunately, I don't remember the specific points this exercise works on. I'll just shut up and let the pictures (and their captions) speak for themselves.

Alan (R) demonstrates shihonage on Craig Hocker (L) (15K).

Sashin Singh (R) begins the shihonage exercise with Beate Kawelke(L) (25K).

Kjartan Clausen (R) does the same to Greg Jennings (L) (41K).

Jim Baker (L) tries a secret counter technique on Gordon Wormser (R) (34K).

Before the seminar, Paul Gowder was begging for some randori practice. Alan decided to incorporate that request into his class. Alan stressed that nage should always stay in motion and always move forward. At the end of class, each little group got the entire mat to practice with. It got pretty ugly at times, but fortunately, no one was injured.

Alan deals with Kjartan as Craig Hocker and Jun Akiyama close in (25K).

Tony Fontaine downs Susie Mellott as Dave Shaw (no hakama), Sean, and Craig follow up (15K).

Neil McKellar turns to Andrea Phillips after throwing Alexei Nickolev. ? is close behind Andrea (21K).
