Wood and Steel II
Jun and Scott have done good reviews already and I doubt I can add
anything to them. I'll just offer thanks to some folks, give some
impressions and thoughts and leave it at that.
First things first. Thanks are in order for a great many folks, not
the least of whom are:
Peter, thank you for sharing your passion, your focus, your love of
budo! Love you like a brother, Peter, but here's a word of advice in
that spirit: Shut up and TEACH! ;^>
MLE, (a delightful houseguest, a wonderful friend, a superior deshi)
... if I could pack up some snow and mail it, it would be on the
way. Anything I can do for you, let me know.
Jun, who arrived to enjoy a seminar (and deal with sleep deprivation)
and pitched in to clean up the dojo and main hall of the vets center
with great gusto. Great pics, Jun-ichi! You are WAY too humble and I
treasure your friendship.
Tim and Leanne and Kris, who worked their butts off (ahem, except for
the 'Entertainment Committee' aka Tim, who spent a LOT of time playing
darts with Jun instead of cleaning Friday afternoon). I have some of
the best students in the world. I am blessed, truly. They also brought
in bottled water, bagels, etc. without being asked and refusing
recompense. Thanks ...
Alice Bently who couldn't come to W&S II, but who DID send a
delightful gift in her stead. It will remain pristine until the next
event, dear lady! Hope you can make that one.
All the listka and non-listka attendees, of course. Wonderful folks,
great training. Susie and Sean, Josh, all the others, thanks for
attending!
VVA Chapter 295, for the facilities.
Jody, for being such a damned GOOD uke ... willing, too! That boy can
take an enourmous amount of punishment and bounce right back for
more. And thank you for the lovely offering plate for our kamiza and
the Suntory!
Second things, second. Random thoughts and impressions:
Peter, let me reiterate; Shut up and TEACH! LOL!!! Great stories,
though.
Scotty, looking so damned relieved that Jody almost ALWAYS beat him to
the punch when somebody called for an uke!
MLE's ankle HURTS to look at! Geesh. Her intensity when she straps on
a 3-foot razor blade is lovely. You never see Emily swinging steel,
you've missed a real budo treat. She was born to cut ... sword fits
her hands like a piece of her.
Jun's eager, energetic aikido. Beautiful stuff. That boy can fly and
he can toss, too. Jun's gonna be a great teacher someday. If he ain't
I'm gonna hurt him real bad. He's got the potential, he's got the
ability ... he's also a natural with a sword.
Susie and Sean wandering in bleary eyed at lunchtime claiming
something about a clock set to the wrong timezone!?!?!? Hmmm. Too damn
bad we live so close and see each other, what, once or twice a
year?
All in all, a wonderful weekend. Ya'll shoulda been there.
